The tool was trained on DNA from humans and close primates. It focuses on missense mutations, which change only one letter in the genetic code.

Researchers from Google DeepMind have presented a tool called AlphaMissense, which analyzes genetic mutations and predicts whether they can cause disease. Science writes about it.

“Usually a person has about 9,000 such mutations, and they can be harmless or cause various diseases, including serious diseases such as cystic fibrosis or cancer. disease “There are a total of 71 million possible mutations, and the AlphaMissense tool analyzed them, managing to predict 89% with 90% accuracy,” the scientists added.

Each mutation is given a score indicating its potential risk. 57% of the mutations were classified as likely benign, 32% likely to cause disease, and the rest remained undetermined.
