The State Department called for an immediate end to the confrontation and the start of a dialogue between Baku and representatives of Nagorno-Karabakh.
The US State Department called on Azerbaijan to stop the fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh and start negotiations. This was stated in a communique issued on Tuesday, September 19, by the US Foreign Office on behalf of Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
“The United States is deeply concerned about Azerbaijan’s military actions in Nagorno-Karabakh and calls for an immediate end to them. They have only worsened the deplorable humanitarian situation in Nagorno-Karabakh and undermined the prospects for achieving peace,” the document said.
The communiqué states that the United States has previously told Azerbaijan that the use of force in resolving differences is unacceptable, “because it runs counter to efforts to create conditions for achieving a just and dignified that peace in the region.”
“We call for an immediate end to the confrontation and the start of dialogue between Baku and representatives of Nagorno-Karabakh,” the US State Department said in a statement.
Let’s recall that on September 19, Azerbaijan began “anti-terrorist measures” in Nagorno-Karabakh to restore constitutional order.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said that “the only path to peace in Nagorno-Karabakh is the complete withdrawal of the Armenian military and the dismantling of the regime in Khankendi.” The Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense has pledged to continue military operations until the conditions set by Baku for Yerevan are accepted.
