During his speech, he, in particular, touched upon the issue of nuclear disarmament in Ukraine. This was reported on the website of the Office of the President.
Zelensky noted that the UN, in particular, was created to prevent the Third World War, which was seen as a nuclear war – other wars seemed not so terrible compared to the threat of the so-called large states using their arsenals of nuclear weapons.
According to Zelensky, the 20th century taught the world to refrain from using weapons of mass destruction and to promote complete nuclear disarmament.
Honestly, this is a good strategy. But this should not be the only strategy to protect the world from this latest war, Zelensky noted.
Ukraine gave up its third largest nuclear arsenal. Then the world decided that Russia should become the guardian of this power. But history demonstrates that it was Russia that most deserved nuclear disarmament back in the 1990s. And Russia deserves it now – terrorists do not have the right to own nuclear weapons,” he emphasized.
At the same time, Zelensky emphasized that now the most terrible thing is not nuclear weapons – although they are not yet used, mass destruction is gaining momentum.
The aggressor turns many other things into weapons, and these things are used not only against our country, but against all of you,” Zelensky emphasized, addressing the UN General Assembly.
As an example of such Russian actions, he cited food supplies affecting a number of countries:
This affects areas from the Atlantic coast of Africa to Southeast Asia. This is the scale of the threat.
Also in his speech, Zelensky called the removal of Ukrainian children to the Russian Federation genocide.
Unfortunately, various terrorist groups abduct children to put pressure on their families and society. But never before have mass kidnappings and deportations become part of government policy. Until now,” he emphasized.
According to him, Ukraine knows the names of tens of thousands of abducted children and there is evidence of hundreds of thousands more deported by Russia from temporarily occupied territories.
We are trying to bring the children home, but time is running out. What will happen to them? These children in Russia are taught to hate Ukraine, all ties with their families are severed… This is definitely genocide,” he emphasized.
Zelensky also called on the world not to try to conclude shadow agreements with the aggressor behind the scenes, noting that “evil cannot be trusted.”
While Russia is pushing the world to the last war, Ukraine is doing everything to ensure that after Russian aggression no one in the world decides to attack any country. Weaponization must be curbed. There must be punishment for war crimes. Deported people must return home. And the infidel must return to his land,” he emphasized.
Zelensky arrived in New York and announced the events of his visit.
