Szijjártó believes that the governments of Turkey and Hungary are going against the global liberal mainstream by being targeted, unfair, baseless, biased attacks and accusations.
The head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry, Peter Szijjártó, accused the European Union of hypocrisy and envy. He said this in an interview with Bloomberg TV, a fragment of which he published on Facebook on Sunday, September 17.
Thus, the politician responded to accusations from the EU that the political systems of Turkey and Hungary are undemocratic.
“We must be aware – both the Turkish government and the Hungarian government – that all governments that oppose the international liberal mainstream become targets of unfair, baseless, biased attacks and accusations,” he said.
Szijjártó believes that any European politician “would be happy to win the elections with such a margin” as Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan or Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
“So I think it’s a big advantage on the Turkish and Hungarian side that our political systems are stable, our leaders are respected and our leaders have public support because they win elections and get majorities in their parliaments,” Szijjarto said.
“This is why Turkey and Hungary are the envy of the EU when it comes to political stability,” added Szijjártó.
Hungary is threatening to halt Sweden’s entry into NATO over an “offensive” 10-minute video filmed by Swedish public education broadcaster UR. This statement was made by Peter Szijjártó and other representatives of the Hungarian authorities.
