The alliance insists on increasing defense production, which should cover the interests of NATO countries and the request for help from Ukraine.
The head of NATO’s military committee, Dutch Admiral Rob Bauer, called for an increase in private investment in defense companies of the Alliance countries that produce munitions. The Voice of America reported this on Saturday, September 16.
“The prices of military equipment and ammunition are increasing. We are now paying more for the same amount of weapons. This means that we cannot be sure that an increase in defense spending will actually lead to an increase in security, Bauer said.
Therefore, NATO insists on increasing defense production, which should cover the interests of the Alliance countries and the request for help from Ukraine, because Kyiv spends an average of 10 thousand shells every day.
Bauer called for more private investment in the defense sector to increase production capacity and called on pension funds and banks to stop calling defense investments unethical.
“Long-term stability must prevail over short-term gains. As we see in the example of Ukraine, war is an event that affects the whole society,” the admiral said.
In addition, he called on the leaders of military enterprises to accelerate the expansion of production capacity.
It was earlier reported that Britain ordered an additional batch of ammunition against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine.
The EP approved the defense procurement mechanism
