Ludovit Odor assured that Bratislava is ready to lift the ban if the issue of “pressure on the Slovak market” is resolved.
Slovakia has introduced a ban on the import of wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower seeds from Ukraine until the end of the year. This is what the Prime Minister of Slovakia Ludovit Odor said, reports Aktuality.
“It (the ban.) will be in effect until the end of the year on the same four products, that is, wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower seeds. We must prevent excessive pressure on the Slovak market to remain fair to domestic farmers ,” – said the head of the Slovak government.
According to him, this step is a reaction to a similar approach taken by Poland and Hungary.
He also assured that the Slovak government will continue to work intensively with the European Commission and EU member states to find a solution.
Slovakia is ready to lift this ban if the issue is resolved, Odor concluded.
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Rural Development of Slovakia explained that the restrictions were introduced to protect the market and they do not apply to the transit of Ukrainian goods.
As you know, the European Commission lifted restrictions on the import of grain from Ukraine to Poland, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Slovakia.
In addition, we wrote that Romania supports the export of Ukrainian grain and intends to increase the volume of its transit to its territory.
