On Friday evening, September 15, the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv increased the bail from UAH 509 million to UAH 3 billion 891 million. The court partially granted the prosecution’s request, since the prosecutor of the Bureau of Economic Security filed a motion to increase the bail amount in this new case to more than UAH 5.8 billion. This was reported by Public.
The prosecutor noted that Kolomoisky has renounced his Ukrainian citizenship and is a citizen of Israel, so there is a risk of him leaving and hiding abroad, as well as obstructing the investigation and influencing witnesses.
However, the businessman’s lawyers stated that the amount of bail was unreasonable because the BEB prosecutor did not provide evidence that his client could pay this amount. The defense also considers the risks unfounded, because Kolomoisky is already in custody.
We would like to remind you that on September 15, Ukrainian businessman Igor Kolomoisky was given a third suspicion in the PrivatBank case on three counts – illegal actions with documents, seizure of other people’s property and laundering of funds obtained by criminal means.
Kolomoisky is suspected of organizing the forgery of documents for the transfer of funds, organizing the seizure of someone else’s property by an organized group on an especially large scale, and acquiring and disposing of property in respect of which the actual circumstances indicate that it was obtained by criminal means.
