Russian artillery fired from Russian territory would be legitimate targets to hit, Taylor said.
The firing of Russian artillery from the territory of the Russian Federation would be a perfectly justified target for the defeat of the Ukrainian army. This was announced on Saturday, June 4, by the US Ambassador to Ukraine, Vice President of the United States Institute for Peace William Taylor, Ukrinform writes.
The diplomat noted that it does not matter what kind of missiles will be delivered to Ukraine, but for what purposes they will be used. He stressed that the firing of Russian artillery at Ukrainian positions from the territory of the Russian Federation could hit wherever it was.
“If we are talking about the firing of Russian military units on the Ukrainian side, these are the targets. It does not matter where they are located – in Ukraine or Russia,” said the former US ambassador to Ukraine.
At the same time, the diplomat said that Ukraine needs additional military assistance.
“The United States needs to do more, provide more individual weapons, more weapons in general. The HIMARS and MLRS systems are a good step, it’s good that the administration has made such a decision. Now it’s possible they expand it and send more ammunition, missiles for these launchers, It’s important, ”Taylor said.
At the same time, according to him, the urgency of deliveries is of paramount importance: the sooner the better.
Earlier it was reported that German defense concern Rheinmetall was preparing to supply Ukraine with up to 50 Leopard 1 tanks and up to 60 Marder infantry fighting vehicles.
The United States has confirmed at various levels that the modern HIMARS multiple launch rocket system is being sent to Ukraine.
The State Department also confirmed that they had received guarantees from the Ukrainian authorities that Western weapons would not be used for operations against Russian targets.
