The investigation requires additional time, including conducting tests: molecular genetic, ballistic and psychological-linguistic.
The Moscow Meshchansky Court extended the arrest of the famous Russian saboteur, former “Minister of Defense” of the so-called “DPR” Igor Girkin (Strelkov) for another three months. Russian media reported this on Tuesday, September 12.
“By court decision, the detention period for Girkin has been extended until December 18, 2023,” the statement said.
As the investigator told the court, in order to complete the investigation in the Girkin case, additional time is needed to carry out some investigative actions and obtain the results of examinations, including molecular genetic, ballistic and psychological-linguistic.
At the same time, according to investigators, the reasons why Girkin was sent to a pre-trial detention center have not changed: he can still interfere with the investigation and escape using conspiracy skills.
In this regard, the defense asked the court to reject the request of the investigation and choose a more lenient preventive measure for Girkin.
We remind you that on July 21, the court ordered Igor Girkin to be arrested until September 18 on charges of calls for extremist activities. He is sitting in the pre-trial detention center of Lefortovo.
After the start of Russia’s all-out invasion of Ukraine, Girkin repeatedly spoke out about the course of the war and strongly criticized the actions of the Russian leadership, including President Vladimir Putin, and also publicly called for his resignation.
