In the Odessa region, the SBU detained an ex-deacon of the UOC-MP, who was sending Ukhilyans abroad under the guise of “church missionaries.”

A place on the list of missionaries cost from 4.5 thousand dollars. The man faces up to 9 years in prison with confiscation of property.
To implement the deal, the defendant falsified “lists of missionaries” who, supposedly on behalf of the head of the diocese, should go abroad on the affairs of the religious community.
Then the “deacon” submitted false documents to the State Service for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Speech for a far-fetched “argumentation” about the need for pseudo-clergy to travel outside of Ukraine.
The cost of one “place on the list” ranged from 4.5 thousand dollars. The amount depended on the urgency of the departure and the capabilities of the clients.
Thus, the businessman tried to illegally smuggle six evaders abroad. However, SBU officers promptly exposed the scheme and caught him in the act.
During searches at the detainee’s residence address, the following was discovered:
-
computers, mobile phones and SIM cards with evidence of the transaction;
-
cash obtained by criminal means.
Currently, a preventive measure has been chosen for the exdeacon – detention with an alternative to bail.
