The aggressor country is holding a pseudo-election in the Russian-occupied territories of Ukraine on September 8-10.
Moldova condemns and does not recognize Russia’s holding of pseudo-elections in the occupied territories of Ukraine. This was announced by the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MFAEI) on Friday, September 8.
The statement of the department noted that the attempt of the Russian Federation to provide legitimacy for the forcible occupation of the territories of the sovereign state of Ukraine is illegal and completely contradicts the norms of international law and international agreements in which Russia itself is a party.
“By holding the so-called elections, Russia directly contradicts the UN Charter and the Helsinki Final Act, and also deliberately violates the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine,” the statement said.
MFAEI emphasized that Moldova strongly supports the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said Moldova was becoming a “logistical appendage of the Kyiv regime.” To this, Chisinau responded that they will continue to help Ukraine.
Ukraine’s victory in the war with Russia will create a geopolitical opportunity to resolve the conflict in Transnistria.
