The President of Turkey intends to discuss Russia’s demands with UN Secretary General António Guterres in New York.

There will be good news about the grain deal in the near future. This is what Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in a conversation with journalists, Anadolu reports on Tuesday, September 5.

In particular, Erdogan expressed hope that “good results” will be achieved in the near future in the renewal of the grain agreement, which will “justify expectations.”

“Russia has two special requests. One is the connection of the Russian Agricultural Bank to the SWIFT system, and the second is the insurance of ships used in transportation,” he said.

Turkey is in close contact with the UN on the renewal of the grain agreement, he said, adding that he will discuss the issue with Secretary General António Guterres in New York.

“Guterres did not propose direct SWIFT, as the Russians wanted, but an intermediate mechanism that would result from the SWIFT transaction,” Erdogan added.

As you know, on September 4, Erdogan met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Sochi. No agreements were reached on the grain agreement.

Later, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry explained how to renew the grain agreement.
