Mi-8 helicopter pilot Maxim Kuzminov, who arrived at one of the air bases of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, told the details of a unique special operation of the Ukrainian intelligence.
The pilot of the Russian Mi-8 helicopter moved to Ukraine, Maxim Kuzminov, at a press conference in Kiev, said that he encouraged the crew to surrender to the Ukrainian side, but they got scared, began to act aggressively and ran towards border after landing. Ukrayinska Pravda writes about it.
“I have two crew members with me. We do not carry weapons. Our pilots fly without weapons. No one can fight me, because the navigator does not have the ability to pilot a helicopter. I reassured the men, I said that everything is fine that the good people live here, everything will be fine. But they started to get scared, started to act quite aggressively and, therefore, ran out of the helicopter towards the border,” said the pilot at a press conference in Kiev.
Kuzminov noted that he did not know the fate of the crew, but, as follows from the media, they may have been fired.
According to the pilot, “he not only hijacked the helicopter, but officially overtook it from point A to point B,” because the route and landing site were agreed upon in advance. So, at 16:30, he flew from the Kursk airport to the Kharkov region – about 20 km from the border. Further, in the Shebekino settlement area, he flew at a very low height – 5-10 m – and in radio silence.
Having directly crossed the border, they began to burn him, Kuzminov said.
“I can’t say who started it, but I assume it was the part of Russia. I was wounded in the leg from small arms. Then I flew about 20 km and landed in the indicated place,” he said.
The Russian pilot claims that before that he only conducted transport operations for the transport of military personnel or cargo, but did not conduct bombing.
Initial information about the possibility of surrender using a helicopter came to him from the police, then GUR joined the operation. The pilot was allegedly promised payments stipulated by a special law, new documents and security for him and his relatives.
Now Kuzminov is considering joining the Ukrainian aviation. The helicopter is part of GUR’s aviation division.
Recall that at the end of August it became known that the Russian Mi-8 helicopter flew over Ukraine and surrendered to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The pilot of the Russian Federation secretly agreed with the Ukrainian intelligence.
