This was reported by the press service of the Nobel Foundation.
The decision to invite all ambassadors to the Nobel Prize ceremony, according to preliminary practice, caused a strong reaction.
The reason for this decision was that we consider it important and right to disseminate as widely as possible the values and messages advocated by the Nobel Prize, the organizers explained.
They also recalled that last year the Nobel Peace Prize was shared by human rights activists in Ukraine, as well as the so-called human rights activists from Russia and Belarus.
We are aware of the strong reaction in Sweden that completely overshadowed this message. Therefore, the board of the Nobel Foundation decided to repeat last year’s exception to the regular practice – not to invite the ambassadors of Russia, Belarus and Iran to the Nobel Prize ceremony in Stockholm, the Nobel Foundation said in a statement.
However, all ambassadors will be invited to the ceremony in Oslo, as happened before.
Recall that five of the six Nobel Prizes are awarded annually in Stockholm after a nomination process that is kept secret for the next 50 years. The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded in Oslo, where separate celebrations take place. The current laureates will be announced in early October, and the award ceremonies will take place on December 10, the anniversary of Alfred Nobel’s death.
