This is stated in a study by the European Commission, writes The Washington Post.
The study found that despite voluntary commitments by major social media companies, including Meta (Facebook), to take action against Russian propaganda, Russian disinformation against Ukraine is thriving.
Throughout 2022, the audience and reach of pro-Kremlin social media accounts have increased significantly across Europe. Preliminary analysis suggests that the reach and influence of Kremlin-backed accounts increased further in the first half of 2023, in part due to the lifting of Twitter’s security standards, the report said.
The EU takes a much more aggressive approach to regulating government-sponsored disinformation than the US.
According to the representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Vadym Skibitsky, Russia at the current stage has aimed its propaganda at an attempt to destroy the internal unity of Ukrainian society and trust between Ukraine and its allies.
