The US National Aeronautics and Space Administration published on its website an image of a possible collision site between a Russian station and a natural satellite of the Earth. Experts are confident that a new crater on the lunar surface is the site of an accident. This was reported on the agency’s website.
The photograph was taken by the NASA Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) probe in lunar orbit. It is noted that the crater has a diameter of approximately 10 m and appeared on the inner edge of the Pontecoulant G crater, located 400 km from the proposed landing site of the station.
Previously, LRO took a picture of this area in June 2022, so experts suggest that the crater was formed after this date, US experts said.
Recall that the Russians launched their month-long mission advertised by propaganda on August 11. The Luna-25 automatic interplanetary station was launched from the Vostochny cosmodrome using a Soyuz-2.1b launch vehicle. The landing of the station on the moon was scheduled for August 21, but on August 20, Luna-25 crashed, colliding with the lunar surface. Roskosmos confirmed the accident.
