The defendant is accused of conspiracy to defraud the United States, violation of export controls, smuggling, fraud and money laundering.
In Cyprus, Artur Petrov, a citizen of the Russian Federation and Germany, was arrested on August 26 for illegally exporting sensitive American military microelectronics to Russia in violation of US export controls. This was reported by the US Department of Justice, European Truth reports.
The detainee is accused of participating in the illegal purchase of a large amount of American-made microelectronics for a Russian company that supplies equipment for military equipment to its manufacturers.
It was noted that 33-year-old Petrov, who has dual Russian-German citizenship and lives in Russia and Cyprus, was arrested at the request of the United States.
Together with two other Russians, he fraudulently purchased a large amount of microelectronics from American distributors for Elektrokom VPK LLC – a supplier of critical electronic components for manufacturers of weapons and other equipment in the Russian Federation.
Petrov was charged with conspiracy to defraud the United States, violation of export controls, smuggling, fraud and money laundering. Each of them carries a maximum sentence of 5 to 20 years.
Recall that Estonia extradited a Russian intelligence agent to the United States. Washington said the citizen of the Russian Federation called himself a “Colonel of the FSB.” He is considered to be involved in the illegal purchase of electronics for the Russian military-industrial complex.
It was previously reported that the British company supplied the Russian Federation with electronics worth $1.2 billion.
