The counterintelligence of the SBU detained another member of the Russian intelligence network, which, on May 9, 2023, was preparing an attempt on the command of the combat units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine fighting on the advanced southern front. On the eve of this day, the SBU detained two organizers of the enemy group. Subsequently, their accomplice was exposed, who hid weapons and ammunition in his own apartment under the bed of his 6-year-old daughter. This was reported by the press center of the Security Service of Ukraine.
And now they have already captured the fourth agent with the call sign Phantom, who was hiding after the detention of his accomplices. The attacker turned out to be a resident of Zaporozhye, who knew how to shoot from a Russian sniper rifle of silent shooting “Vintorez”. It was from this weapon that he was supposed to shoot at Ukrainian officers.
The special service established that the Russian FSB contacted him again some time after the other members of the group were detained. The Phantom received the task of correcting the enemy strike on the front positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine using the Russian Solntsepek flamethrower systems. To collect information about the location of the Ukrainian military, the attacker tried to “blindly” use his acquaintances from the front-line districts of Zaporozhye.
The Russian agent was apprehended and a strike on forward units of the Defense Forces was prevented. During searches, the attacker was found to have more than 500 rounds of various calibers, including 308 win cartridges for firing from a sniper rifle.
Investigators are preparing to inform the detainee about the suspicion under Part 3 of Art. 15, part 1, art. 115 (attempted murder) and part 1 of Art. 263 (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Recall, on August 24, the Security Service of Ukraine detained in the Kyiv region an agent of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the RF Armed Forces (GRU), who collected information that helped the occupiers to correct the shelling of the thermal power plant during the heating season.
