Considering Russia’s support for Black Sea grain exports without continuing Ukrainian grain exports is encouraging Moscow to take more aggressive action, Kiev warned.
Ukraine expects that Turkey and other parties involved in the grain agreement will use their authority to stop Russia’s attempts to establish grain exports in the Black Sea without continuing the export of the products agricultural of Ukraine. This was stated in the comments of the Foreign Ministry, published on Thursday, August 31.
It was indicated that Ukraine, as one of the guarantors of global food security, is interested in continuing the operation of the Black Sea Grain Initiative to continue exporting agricultural products to foreign markets, particularly in Africa and Asia.
“We are actively working on the launch of alternative routes. The Black Sea must remain open for free and safe trade. In this context, we hope that Turkey, which has repeatedly confirmed its unshakable position on protection and strict adherence to international law. , as well as other parties involved, are using their authority to prevent Russia’s attempts to again violate international obligations and blackmail the world with new crises in food,” the statement said.
Diplomats stress that Russia’s destruction of Ukraine’s port infrastructure and grain storage facilities after its withdrawal from the Black Sea Grain Initiative and blockade of Black Sea navigation are intended to make it impossible to further export Ukrainian grain by sea, reduce supply to world markets and increase food prices for their own benefit. .
“Considering Russia’s support for the export of Black Sea grain without continuing the export of Ukrainian grain from Ukrainian ports will cause a severe blow to international obligations and international law , will encourage Moscow to take more aggressive actions, and increase the feeling of impunity,” the Foreign Ministry warned.
Recall that on August 30, Russia announced an “alternative” to the grain agreement. We are talking about arranging the supply of 1 million tons of Russian grain to Turkey at a reduced price with the financial support of Qatar.
It is also known that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will come to Russia in early September.
