The head of European diplomacy proposed to increase the purpose of the training mission and noted the importance of training the pilots of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security Josep Borrell suggested that member countries prepare 40,000 Ukrainian troops by the end of the year. This was reported on August 30 by the Interfax-Ukraine agency.
“I proposed to the ministers that by the end of the year the goal of the training mission will be raised to 40,000 trained Ukrainian soldiers,” the diplomat said at a press conference in Toledo.
He noted that so far, 25,000 Ukrainian fighters have been trained, indicating “unprecedented speed.”
According to Borrell, by the end of October, the number of Ukrainian military trained in EU countries will reach 30,000.
At the same time, the head of European diplomacy emphasized that soldiers from Ukraine need more specialized training, especially in F-16 aircraft.
He also welcomed the decision of Denmark and the Netherlands to provide Ukraine with a new generation of fighters.
Earlier it was reported that a regional training center will be located on the territory of Romania, where Ukrainian pilots will be trained.
