The United States intends to strengthen Ukraine’s position both on the battlefield and at the negotiating table, the State Department said.
The U.S. State Department has confirmed that it has received guarantees from Ukrainian authorities that Western weapons will not be used for operations against Russian targets. This was announced on Thursday, June 2, by State Department spokesman Ned Price at a briefing.
“It is true that we have received assurances from our partners in Ukraine that they will not use these weapons to hit targets on Russian territory,” he said.
He recalled that Russian forces were now fighting on Ukrainian sovereign territory. a State Department spokesman also called the “sad” fact that “Russian troops are deployed inside Ukraine in areas relatively far from the Russian border.”
At the same time, he stressed that Ukraine “has the right to respond to Russia’s aggression,” and the United States, along with its allies, to provide the Armed Forces with defensive weapons.
“Our goal here is to do everything we can to end this war,” he said.
He said it was now Russia that was trying to prolong the war: “If Ukraine stops fighting today, then tomorrow there will be no sovereign, independent state of Ukraine. If Russia stops fighting today, then no war. “
Earlier, the United States confirmed at various levels that the modern HIMARS multiple launch rocket system is being sent to Ukraine.
