Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi “expressed understanding regarding the decision taken” by the Russian authorities.
Russian President Vladimir Putin will not attend the G20 summit in New Delhi in person. This was reported by Interfax in connection with the statement of the office of the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi on Monday, August 28.
So, Putin told Modi in a phone conversation that Russia will be represented by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
The message noted that Modi “expressed understanding regarding this decision.”
Earlier in August, Putin backed out of attending the BRICS summit in South Africa in person because of an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court in The Hague.
The G20 summit is scheduled to take place on September 9-10 in New Delhi, and, in advance, the Kremlin is preparing Putin’s trip to India.
In August, the visit of the President of the Russian Federation to Turkey was planned, but was canceled. Today, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Putin’s meeting with the President of this country, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, is being prepared.
