After an exciting decade in the executive suite, Meta (Née Facebook) COO Sheryl Sandberg has left the company.
Sandberg broke the news shortly before the trade ended on Wednesday, then the company’s shares plummeted causing him to become a billionaire.
ᲨSandberg’s long Facebook post broadly reflects 14 years of working for the company and how it has changed and around the world.
“The debate on social media has changed from the early days of being unrecognizable,” he wrote. Saying it’s not always easy isn’t enough.
Sandberg said he plans to leave the company this fall and remain on the company’s board of directors, but has not yet made his post-meta plans.
In A Separate Post, CEO Mark Zuckerberg identified Sandberg’s move as the “end of an era” and thanked him for building Facebook’s business operations from scratch.
This shift indicates a massive internal power shift in Meta. As Lieutenant Chief of Zuckerberg Dated 2008, Sandberg controls a large portion of the company’s extensive and annoying day-to-day operations.
This includes the capture and misuse of Cambridge Analytica, which has links to President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign, the personal information of 87 million users.
And at the time Facebook was hiring Definers Public Affairs, an opposition Republican research firm, to criticize billionaire philanthropist and frequent Facebook critic George Soros.
And when Sandberg denied the violent uprising on January 6, 2021 in the U.S. Capitol, it may have been “almost organized” on Facebook – only the leak of internal documents completely undermines that narrative.
Sandberg’s departure coincides with Meta’s attempt to pioneer, which Zuckerberg describes as a “metavers”, a newborn and relatively vague push into virtual reality. (Critics argue that Rebrand has something else to do. Restore the company’s appropriate and formidable public image.)
To this end, the new name will become official on June 9, when it will become its stock. It is planned. Switch from “FB” to “META”.
