The Japanese government is ensuring the safety of the disposal of treated radioactive water from the damaged Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant.
Japanese authorities have asked the Chinese government to immediately lift the ban on the import of Japanese seafood, which was imposed after the start of the discharge of purified radioactive water into the sea from the damaged Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant. This is what Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said, Kyodo reports.
“We request the lifting of the import ban through diplomatic channels. We strongly encourage a discussion on the safety of discharging purified water between Japanese and Chinese experts based on scientific justification, ” he said.
It can be recalled that Japan, despite the concern of local fishermen and some neighboring countries, on Thursday, August 24, began dumping purified radioactive water into the sea from the damaged Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant.
China called the water release “an extremely selfish and irresponsible act” and announced a suspension of all seafood imports from Japan. Earlier, China introduced testing of all Japanese seafood for radioactive elements.
The Japan National Fishermen’s Federation has also spoken out against dumping the water, saying that the scientifically proven safety of such a measure does not mean consumers and the public can trust the safety of the seafood.
