In the past two days, several Ukrainian ships and many third country ships have passed through this route.
The new grain corridor passes through the territorial waters of three NATO countries. This was announced on Monday, August 21, by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov at a joint briefing with his Bulgarian counterpart Todor Tagarev.
Reznikov recalled that in April 2022, the Armed Forces of Ukraine sank the flagship of the Russian navy Moscow with Ukrainian missiles Neptune, but since then the defense of Ukraine has been significantly strengthened. According to him, today the Russian fleet is not in the zone of 100 nautical miles from the Ukrainian coast.
“In fact, they are hiding closer to Novorossiysk, in the Kerch Strait, from where they attack the civilian infrastructure of Ukraine,” the defense minister said.
He explained that he remembered these events, because the passage of the ship from the port of Odessa through the Bosporus and Dardanelles took place on the coast of Ukraine along with the territorial waters of Ukraine and the territorial waters of Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey.
“It is hard to imagine that Russia would dare to attack ships in the waters of three NATO countries … I hope that we will continue to provide food to the whole world through such a corridor,” Reznikov said.
According to Tagarev, a few days ago he requested information about the passage of ships through these straits in the last 48 hours.
“Therefore, I know that about a hundred vessels passed in both directions, which indicates that the traffic did not stop. Among these vessels, only a few were Ukrainian, but I believe that such work will continue in the future .Of course, it takes time, but we have to make sure that all these communication routes are safe, that there is no room for any provocation by Russian ships,” said the Bulgarian Defense Minister.
Tagarev emphasized that Bulgaria is concerned about the provocation of the Russian Federation, in particular, to block the grain initiative. It highlights the current dangers and points out the danger of civil navigation.
It can be recalled that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan postponed a meeting with the Russian leader Vladimir Putin until September.
And in late July, the media reported that Putin was ignoring Erdogan’s attempts to renew the grain deal.
