This was stated by President Zelensky during a joint briefing with Prime Minister Mitsotakis on August 21.
After a visit to the Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark, the head of state went to Greece, where he will take part in the Ukraine-Balkans summit.
Rakurs previously reported that about 70 Ukrainians are now in Denmark for training on F-16 fighter jets. Among them are not only pilots, but also aviators – providing flights, servicing equipment. The first wave of pilots went there, later there will be a second and a third.
Another group is young pilots, in fact yesterday’s graduates, who will leave for the UK. They will undergo basic training – English, light-engine Western equipment with the transition to fighters. This application will last longer, possibly up to 2 years.
In these seconds, 8-9 Russian fighters are freely located in these territories, dropping guided bombs and launching missiles. They won’t be able to do that with the F-16,” Air Force spokesman Yuri Ignat says.
He said that this is the first wave of pilots who will be retrained on the F-16. Then the second and third waves will follow.
Another group of pilots are young pilots, in fact yesterday’s graduates, who will go to Britain, where they will master a slightly longer program. But they will undergo basic training – English, light-engine Western equipment with a transition to fighters later. This program will last longer, perhaps up to two years, but this is the prospect that awaits us – we are re-equipping our Air Force with new types of equipment. And therefore, the training of pilots at the Kharkiv Air Force University will also be focused on this.
