Ignat said that the F-16s have arrived in Ukraine during Euro 2012 support at the Mirgorod airfield.
The spokesman of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Yuriy Ignat, said that there are no infrastructure problems for modern Western fighters in Ukraine. He said this on the air of the telethon.
“F-16s have already arrived in Ukraine during the support of Euro-2012. These planes are at Mirgorod airport, landed on our children and felt good there. Our pilots even had a chance to meet them. Actually, they flew F-15s to Starokonstantinov, Khmelnytsky region, in 2018. That means Western Efka planes are at our airports,” Ignat said.
According to him, there were also exercises in 2018, when pilots shared their experience.
“Most of our military airfields have strips made of concrete slabs. They have seams that need to be smoothed. If these strips are prepared properly, then in principle there are no problems. The F-16 also has the problem of a low air intake, which can suck in foreign objects. It’s dangerous, and you have to take care of it, you have to keep the runway clean,” said the Air Force spokesman.
Ignat added, aside from the condition of the runways and cleanliness, it is also necessary to do other logistics that, in combat conditions, will protect the aircraft so that they are not destroyed by the enemy at the airports.
Recall that the Netherlands will provide Ukraine with 42 F-16 fighters.
Earlier, the United States officially approved the transfer of F-16 aircraft to Ukraine from Denmark and the Netherlands. Deliveries may begin after Ukrainian pilots take possession of these fighters.
As reported, Ukrainian pilots have already mastered the F-16 fighters in the UK and Sweden.
