The US says it monitors China’s exercises off Taiwan

China considers the Taiwan Peninsula as its territory, despite the desire of its inhabitants to become a separate democratic state.

The United States has called on Beijing to end pressure on Taiwan after the Chinese army began another military exercise off the island’s coast. About this on Saturday, August 19, Reuters wrote.

In particular, the representative of the US State Department said that the White House calls on China to start a meaningful dialogue with Taiwan.

“We call on Beijing to end its military, diplomatic and economic pressure on Taiwan and begin meaningful dialogue,” a State Department spokesman said.

In addition, he said that the United States will continue to monitor Chinese military exercises off the coast of Taiwan.

Recall that at the end of July, the United States approved the sale of arms to Taiwan for $440 million. This includes 30 mm caliber ammunition, spare parts for equipment, weapons, and necessary software.

It was earlier reported that China has started military exercises around Taiwan. Maneuvers were made in the Taiwan Strait and in the north, south and east of the island.
