According to The Washington Post, the main intelligence directorate of the Russian Armed Forces General Staff instructed recruits to conduct reconnaissance of Polish seaports, install video cameras along railways and plant tracking devices in military cargo, the newspaper writes. Also, the Russian special services set the recruited task of derailing trains carrying weapons for Ukraine.
Poland detained 12 Ukrainian refugees, one Russian and three citizens of Belarus. A Polish law enforcement officer involved in the investigation told WP they were assigned to carry out arson and murder.
According to the Polish Internal Security Service (ABW), Moscow recruited refugees using, in particular, Russian-language Telegram channels. Announcements for potential saboteurs were placed among job offers and rental housing. The advertisements promised to pay a few dollars for the placement of anti-American and anti-NATO slogans. After that, more complex tasks were offered for a larger fee. The recruits were paid with cryptocurrencies and bank transfers from untraceable accounts, the publication points out.
Polish law enforcement officers discovered potential saboteurs by accident. An attentive passer-by noticed a camera lens that was peeking out from behind the bushes on an important section of the highway and reported this to law enforcement officers.
