Viktor Orban also announced the construction of “one of the most modern ammunition factories in Europe” in the country.
Hungary has signed an agreement to produce combat drones with Israeli and German companies as part of efforts to develop its military industry. This is what Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said at the opening ceremony of a new plant for the production of military vehicles in the city of Zalaegerszeg, in southwestern Hungary, reports the Associated Press.
According to him, we are talking about cooperation with the Israeli company UVision and with a German partner, whose name he did not specify.
“If I heard about a country that manufactures and develops military equipment with the Germans and Israelis, I would think twice about contacting them. And this is good news for every Hungarian,” the head of government explained of Hungarian his position.
The plant, in which the Hungarian government has a 49% stake, is owned by the German military technology company Rheinmetall. Budapest is now trying in this way to strengthen its combat forces and increase the production of military equipment.
The Prime Minister also announced that work will soon begin on another Rheinmetall investment in central Hungary, which will be one of the most modern ammunition factories in Europe.
The official also noted that Hungary this year, as a NATO member, will fulfill the Alliance’s expectations that member countries spend at least 2% of their GDP on defense.
