The court made the official announcement of the verdict on Thursday, August 17.
Gerasimov was sentenced to a fine – UAH 51,000 – with the deprivation of the right to hold positions related to the performance of the functions of a representative of power in government bodies for a year.
Also, UAH 55,000 was charged from the people’s deputy for the examination. The verdict can be challenged within 30 days. The people’s deputy was released from punishment after the statute of limitations expired.
Gerasimov said that “the case has nothing to do with corruption, and everything that is being considered in court happened long before politics and happened for the declared legal money.”
The decision of the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court in the case of a violation in the declaration of property and income is an exclusively political campaign of the authorities to divert public attention from corruption and embezzlement in the Ministry of Defense, bribery and scandals around the presidential team, – said the co-chairman of the European Solidarity faction.
Background
In April 2021, journalists from the Schemes program reported that MP Artur Gerasimov had not declared a two-story estate in Spain. Detectives have launched an investigation into this material.
According to the SAP, Gerasimov did not declare a two-story building and a parking lot in the province of Alicante (Spain), which he owns together with his wife. NABU detectives found out that the deputy bought this property back in 2013 for 190,000 euros.
The people’s deputy himself does not mind that he really bought a house with his wife back in 2013 in order to go there on vacation. A few months later, the people’s deputy donated the house to his mother on the basis of a donation agreement.
After the publication of the investigation, Gerasimov said that he had informed the NAPC “of possible inaccuracies in the declaration.” However, journalists found out that Gerasimov informed the agency about this the next day after the editors sent him written questions about Spanish family property.
Later, in a comment to a Scheme journalist, when asked about an undeclared foreign house, the parliamentarian said: “Since 2013, he was no longer mine.”
To the clarification that his family’s ownership of this estate is evidenced by official documents on the Spanish real estate register, Gerasimov replied that “Spanish registers do not reflect the real situation.”
On January 16, NABU and SAPO reported suspicions of non-declaration of real estate in Spain to People’s Deputy Gerasimov.
