Hackers have carried out targeted DDoS attacks on sites related to nuclear power in Japan. The attack was led by an Italian-based group.
The Anonymous hacker group carried out cyberattacks on the Japan Atomic Energy Agency, Japan Atomic Power Co, Japan Atomic Energy Society. This happened in protest against plans to release purified radioactive water from the damaged Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant into the sea, according to Kyodo.
Anonymous is said to have stepped up its cyberattacks last month after the International Atomic Energy Agency said the planned release of purified radioactive water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant met world safety standards.
Hackers have carried out targeted DDoS attacks on sites related to nuclear power in Japan. The attack was led by an Italian-based group. The group’s activity based in Vietnam has also been confirmed.
The Japan Atomic Energy Agency said traffic on its website was about 100 times higher than usual after the attack, but users could continue browsing the site while the agency took measures to attack.
Previously, the Anonymous group published a “target list” of their attacks. This was preceded by the fact that the Japanese government officially decided in 2021 to release purified water from the Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant, owned by Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings Inc.
Recall that hackers from North Korea destroyed the networks of Russia’s largest missile manufacturer. It was also reported that 12 ministries in Norway were hacked.
