BOSTON (AP) – McDonald’s workers at a Massachusetts restaurant deliberately poured bacon on a fish sandwich ordered by a Muslim woman for one of her children, the Civil Rights Organization said Wednesday.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations has filed a complaint of discrimination against women on behalf of the Massachusetts Commission on Discrimination.
“It is well known that Islam forbids Muslims to eat pork,” the complaint said. “McDonald’s staff intentionally added bacon to the applicant’s food to insult, insult the applicant and his minor children.”
The family was served a sandwich in June at a McDonald’s restaurant in Chicope, 80 miles (128 miles) west of Boston.
The lawsuit is the first step in the money application process, said Barbara Dugan, a CAIR attorney. He also hopes this will motivate McDonald’s to better train its employees to prevent a similar incident in the future.
“Religious discrimination in public places is not only against the law, but also morally reprehensible,” he said in a statement.
The email of the comment request was left at McDonald’s corporate headquarters in Chicago. The message also remained with someone who answered the phone from Gomez Enterprises Ltd., which operates McDonald’s in Meadows Street, Chicago.
This experience prompted a child to ask his mother, “Do we hate you?”
“McDonald and my kids felt unpleasant and unworthy because they intentionally stuffed a sandwich full of fish bacon for no other reason but to punish us for our faith and religious beliefs,” he said. of the woman, Ghadir Allahmar in a declaration. “It really hurts us. My children are now wondering if they are welcome in their country. I was asked: “Do they hate us?” How would my mother answer this question? “
Alahmar, who was carrying Hajib and Abaya, entered the store on June 29 last year with his 7-year-old twin son, according to the complaint. He ordered a simple fish sandwich and one of the children instructed the employee to repeat the order if they did not understand his purpose.
They received an order that included potatoes and biscuits and left the restaurant to walk to the nearby schoolyard where they would eat. One of her children noticed the bacon.
The complaint states that the sandwich not only contains bacon, but also appears to contain extra bacon.
They did not eat bacon, but one child complained that he ate the bottom half of the cookie and the fish fillet.
Allahmar’s wife returned to the store that same night carrying an uneaten portion of the sandwich and refunded the purchase price.
