Turkey warned Moscow about the risk of increasing tensions in the Black Sea in the event of a repeat of situations with forced stops and searches of ships.
Turkey says it has warned Russia of the risk of escalating tensions over Russia’s illegal military inspection of a civilian ship in the Black Sea. About this on Thursday, August 17, reported at the Center for Combating Disinformation in Turkey.
The statement states that Ankara has warned Moscow about the risk of increasing tensions in the Black Sea in the event of a repeat of situations similar to the inspection of the Sukra Okan dry cargo ship by the Russian military.
“After the actions taken in relation to the ship, the Russian side duly pointed out the need to avoid such initiatives that could increase tension in the Black Sea,” the message said.
At the same time, Turkey noted that the ship stopped in international waters, not Turkish. The center noted that although the owner of the Sukru Okan vessel is Turkish, this vessel is not under the Turkish flag. Because of international law it is the flag state that is more important than the nationality of the owner.
The administration of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Palau, whose flag the ship sailed, should respond to the incident.
It will be recalled that on August 13, the Russian military issued a warning to the dry cargo ship Sukru Okan.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry commented on this event and said that the Ukrainian side strongly condemns the provocative actions of the aggressor country Russia.
The State Department called the “unacceptable escalation” of the actions of the Russian Federation in the Black Sea
