The position of the authorities of the United States of America is that in the future Ukraine can become a member of NATO.
The US White House has denied information that there are talks about Ukraine’s possible entry into NATO if it gives up part of its territories in favor of Russia. This was announced on Wednesday, August 16, by White House strategic communications coordinator John Kirby.
Answering a reporter’s question about discussions about a possible exchange of Ukrainian territories for membership in the North Atlantic Alliance, Kirby said: “There is nothing like that. Not like that.”
The official emphasized that the position of the US authorities is that in the future Ukraine may become a member of NATO, which was confirmed by the leadership of the Alliance member countries at the last summit in Vilnius.
“At the Vilnius Summit, the Alliance supported the idea that a path to Ukraine’s membership in NATO could be developed. The current focus is on helping Ukraine resist Russian aggression and take back the territories it fully owns of Ukraine. They are making progress every day, and we will continue to support them,” Kirby said.
Remember yesterday Stian Jenssen said that Ukraine could join NATO in exchange for the territories taken by Russia, and called it “one of the possible solutions.”
In response, the Foreign Ministry called the talks about Ukraine joining NATO in exchange for giving up part of the territories completely unacceptable.
