Turkish intelligence agencies have detained a woman suspected of murdering Russian Ambassador to Ankara Andrey Karlov in 2016.
A woman is in prison in Istanbul on charges of involvement in the murder of Russian Ambassador Andrey Karlov, who was shot dead at the opening of an exhibition in Ankara in December 2016. On August 15, IHA reported.
“During the operation in Istanbul, the wife of Shahin Segut, who was the private imam of the perpetrator of the murder, Mevlut Altintash, was detained,” the report said.
Shahin Segut, previously identified as the “handler” of the attempted murder, was sentenced to life in prison. Segut’s wife was also sentenced in absentia and a warrant was issued for her arrest, but the woman hid from law enforcement officials for more than six years. He was detained in an operation of special services in one of the districts of Istanbul.
It will be remembered that the Ambassador of Russia to Turkey, Andrei Karlov, was assassinated on December 19, 2016 during his speech at the opening of the exhibition. Russia through the eyes of the Turks in Ankara. The murder was committed by former policeman Mevlut Altintash.
