The Russians offered Ottawa two options for resolving this issue: “peaceful means” or arbitration.
The owner of the An-124-100 cargo plane arrested in Canada is a Russian company Volga-Dnepr sent an ultimatum to the Canadian government. In it, he puts Ottawa before a choice: either a “peaceful” solution to the issue of the arrested aircraft, or arbitration. This was reported by the Russian pro-government news agency Interfax on Monday, August 14th.
The media said copies of the message were sent to the Prime Minister of Canada, as well as the Governor General, the Ministers of Finance, Foreign Affairs, Justice and the Attorney General.
The “Peaceful way” in Moscow is considered in the context of the provisions of the agreement between the USSR and Canada on the encouragement and mutual protection of investments. We are talking about Article 9 of the agreement between the USSR and Canada of November 20, 1989.
“If the dispute is not resolved within six months after Canada receives the communication, the airline will Volga-Dnepr formally initiated arbitration proceedings,” the Russian company threatened.
As we wrote earlier, Canada will transfer AIM-9 anti-aircraft missiles to Ukraine.
Earlier, Canada allocated a new aid package to Ukraine. This is about $2.5 million for 40 sniper rifles and ammunition from Prairie Gun Works, about $2 million worth of new radios from L3 Harris for the Leopard 2 tank.
