The ammunition was handed over to the Ukrainians as part of the first phase of the €1 billion EU plan.
EU countries have already transferred about 224 thousand shells of various types to Ukraine as part of a plan to provide 1 million rounds of ammunition throughout the year. EU spokesman Peter Stano said this, DW reported yesterday.
“Member countries (EU – ed.) supplied approximately 223,800 artillery munitions – long-range self-propelled, precision-guided munitions, as well as mortar munitions – and 2,300 rockets of all types,” said he.
The ammunition was transferred as part of the first phase of the EU plan, for which 1 billion euros are allocated.
As you know, at the end of winter, the Armed Forces of Ukraine faced the problem of a shortage of artillery shells. In early May, the Council of the EU approved a decision on the joint procurement of ammunition and missiles for Ukraine.
The European Parliament also supported a document on increasing the production of ammunition and missiles. In July, a plan to expand ammunition production took effect.
