A German army captain who was spying for Russia could have passed electronic warfare data to the GRU.

53-year-old Bundeswehr captain Thomas H. is suspected of having passed information to the GRU obtained from the Bundeswehr’s supply chain in Koblenz, Bild reports.
There he served in the U5.1 department, dealing with electronic warfare and countering electronic warfare systems. This area is of particular interest to the Russian army. In May 2023, the military contacted Russian diplomats in Germany and offered them cooperation.
The German Prosecutor General’s Office accused the officer of “agent work for the special services.” He is currently in custody. He faces up to 10 years in prison. A private house in the city of Argental was searched.

According to the German Federal Prosecutor’s Office, since May of this year, the detained German citizen Thomas H., on his own initiative, contacted the Russian Consulate General in Bonn and the Russian Embassy in Berlin several times, offering cooperation.
Thomas H. was detained in the city of Koblenz in western Germany. According to investigators, he handed over to the Russian authorities information obtained in the Bundeswehr. It is known that the suspect works in the German Army’s Federal Office for Equipment and Information Technology. This structure is responsible for the purchase of all equipment for the troops.
According to the prosecutor’s office, a warrant for the arrest of Thomas H. was issued on 27 July. He is currently in custody and faces up to ten years in prison.
