On Thursday, the transition of the 4th unit of the Zaporizhzhya NPP to the “cold shutdown” mode began, caused by a water leak in one of the steam generators. Within three days, the sixth block of Zaporizhzhya NPP should be switched to “hot shutdown” mode. This will be reported in the next IAEA report.
IAEA Director Rafael Mariano Grossi assured that the team of experts will closely monitor the process of switching the 6th unit of the Zaporizhzhya ZNPP to “hot shutdown” mode.
“The IAEA team on site will closely monitor the transition operations between the shutdown states of Units 4 and 6,” Grossi said.
Since April 21, power unit No. 6 is in “cold shutdown” mode to perform checks and maintenance of safety systems.
The IAEA director said in a statement that other units of the plant will remain in “cold shutdown” mode.
Grossi added that on Thursday, the Dnieper power line of 750 kV was turned off twice at ZNPP. Thus, the plant has to rely on a single 330 kV redundant line to provide power to ensure safe operation.
The water level in the cooling lake at the nuclear power plant remains stable – falling by about 1 cm per day, the report said.
It was also noted that as a result of the inspections carried out by the agency’s experts, several military trucks were found on the territory of the station for maintenance in the engine room of the 2nd power unit. No mines or explosives were found in the ZNPP territory.
