The Polish leader said he considers a nuclear accident a more likely scenario than the use of nuclear weapons.
Polish President Andrzej Duda believes that Russia will not use nuclear weapons in the war in Ukraine, because Russian President Vladimir Putin will not be allowed to “press the button”, even if he wants to do it. Duda said this in an interview with the Washington Post.
In his opinion, Putin does not have absolute power in this matter.
“Russia will not resort to the use of nuclear weapons in Ukraine. And not only because Putin does not use them. I believe that the nuclear arsenal in Russia is under the collective control of many people and does not depend on the self-determination of Putin . So for a decision it will take more than one person,” said Duda.
The President of Poland noted that in this sense he is “more concerned about possible problems with nuclear power plants in Ukraine.”
“I’m afraid the more likely scenario is something like a nuclear accident,” Duda said.
He added that, in his opinion, the threat of an explosion at a nuclear power plant is higher than the use of nuclear weapons.
It can be recalled that the leader of China, Xi Jinping, personally warned the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, against the use of nuclear weapons in Ukraine, indicating that Beijing is concerned about this war.
Note that US President Joe Biden called Putin’s threats to use tactical nuclear weapons real.
