We have made it clear that when it comes to determining the future of Ukraine, Kiev is the first to decide, and this applies to any potential negotiations,” said State Department spokesman Matthew Miller.
According to him, the decision on any meeting of the presidents of Ukraine and Russia “should be taken by President Zelensky.”
Miller recalled that “Zelensky has long, including even before the start of this (full-scale) war, made it clear that he is open to conversations with Russia, where Moscow will respect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.”
Let him decide when he’s ready or when they’ll have these conversations. But the obstacle has always been and remains that the ways did not abandon their imperialist goals, their belief that Ukraine, according to him, is not a real country, and did not withdraw his troops beyond its borders, Miller said.
Recall that after the meeting in Saudi Arabia, the head of the Office of the President, Andriy Yermak, said that Ukraine plans to hold two summits on the “peace formula” presented by Zelensky, one of the summits with the involvement of Russia. The participants of the meeting in Jeddah reached an understanding that respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, as well as the supremacy of the UN Charter, should be at the heart of any peace agreement.
