German citizens continue to support Ukrainians affected by Russia’s actions, Scholz said.
So far, about 800 thousand refugees from Ukraine have been registered in Germany, who have been forced to leave their homes because of the war unleashed by Russia. This was announced on Tuesday, May 31, by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz at a briefing on the results of a special meeting of the European Council, written by Ukrinform.
In his speech, the German politician said that his compatriots support the citizens of Ukraine in a difficult moment and are ready to help those who find themselves in a difficult situation due to Russia’s actions.
“Today in Germany, about 800,000 Ukrainians are registered in the Central Register of Foreigners. It shows how much the citizens of our country and many German communities contribute and help those seeking protection abroad, and in the case it’s in Germany, ”Scholz said.
“German society shows what kind of unity it is capable of,” Scholz added.
He also reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to support Ukraine.
Earlier, CNN reported that German authorities in recent weeks had reduced military assistance to Ukraine. In the past two months, only two batches of weapons have been transferred.
