Kneisl headed the Austrian Foreign Ministry in 2017-2019. In 2018, she invited Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to the wedding and danced the waltz with him in front of the cameras. In the Austrian government, the official represented the far-right Freedom Party, which advocated better relations with the Russian Federation.
Kneissl stated that she was “not accepted anywhere” so she decided to go to Lebanon because she knew Arabic. In Russia, her friends helped her find housing. When asked how long she plans to live in Petrushovo, Kneissl replied that she “paid in another month, and then we’ll see.”
It was not easy to come here, but I try to find my way, although it is not easy. I like it here, this village is very nice. I started working, continue teaching and learning, writing my books, learning the language. I had to leave my old life, start all over again, and at 60 it’s not easy, said the pro-Russian politician.
According to Kneisl, she was invited to work at the GORKI (Geopolitical Observatory on Key Issues of Russia’s Development) Center, established in March this year, at St. Petersburg State University. On the university website, Kneisl is listed as the head of the center.
In 2021, the ex-official joined the board of directors of the Russian state company Rosneft. Kneissl also wrote columns for the EU-sanctioned propaganda channel RT.
