Assets frozen under EU sanctions against the Kremlin include bank accounts, villas, yachts and cars.
Italy since the beginning of the war has frozen the assets of Russian oligarchs in the amount of almost two billion euros. This was announced by the country’s central bank, according to Reuters.
It noted that assets frozen under EU sanctions against the Kremlin include bank accounts, villas, yachts and cars.
According to Enzo Serrat, head of the anti-money laundering unit (UIF) of the Bank of Italy UIF, financial assets worth around 330 million euros linked to 80 individuals have been frozen as part of the sanctions.
As you know, until the start of the war in February 2022, Italy’s beaches and harbors were a popular vacation destination for wealthy Russians who bought property in prime locations, such as Lake Como, Sardinia, Tuscany and the Ligurian coast. Some of the oligarchs targeted by the sanctions have filed court appeals, including Russian-Uzbek steel and telecommunications tycoon Alisher Usmanov. In April, an Italian court sent a decision to the EU Court of Justice on whether to continue freezing its assets worth more than 80 million euros.
Recall that the Italian authorities imposed an administrative arrest on 11 villas of the Russian oligarch, the owner of Akron, Vyacheslav Kantor.
