The drugs are only available with the prescription of psychiatrists. A full course of treatment can cost around $16,500.

Australia is the first in the world to legalize MDMA (ecstasy) and psilocybin for the treatment of chronic mental illnesses. Bloomberg reported this.
From July 1, psychiatrists in Australia will be able to use ecstasy to treat post-traumatic stress disorder. Psilocybin will treat depression.
According to the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), this was done due to the lack of alternatives to effective treatment options for mental disorders. The reason is also the fact that, according to preliminary data, these drugs may be unique for medical use.
The drugs are only available with the prescription of psychiatrists. A full course of treatment can cost around $16,500.
Research into the use of psychedelic substances to treat mental illness is reportedly just beginning. The long-term benefits and risks of their use are not yet known, so it is not possible to predict how long the first improvements in patients will take.
“This is a game changer in psychiatry because it’s one of the biggest evolutions in the last 70 years. Psychedelics provide profound mood changers,” said Mike Musker of the University of South Australia’s Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Research and Education Group.
Outside of the narrow medical field, both MDMA and psilocybin are known to remain illegal in Australia.
Recall that the Verkhovna Rada Committee recommends that the draft law on the legalization of medical cannabis be adopted as a basis.
