Balloons are often used by weather forecasters, but such balloons are also launched into the air by the military for reconnaissance purposes.

In the Polish city of Braniewo, located near Russia’s Kaliningrad region, law enforcement officers noticed and brought down an object resembling a wolf to the ground. On Friday, June 30, PAP writes.

A local reported spotting a balloon in the air. He called the police.

“According to preliminary data, the object recorded today in the Braniewo region is a wolf. Now the relevant authorities are investigating,” said the Polish Ministry of Defense.

The department has not ruled out that it was a meteorological balloon.

“Currently, the relevant services are investigating the case,” the agency added on Twitter.

Pentagon spokesman Brigadier General Pat Ryder said the Chinese balloon shot down earlier this year did not collect information while flying over the United States.
