Some of the Russian PMC Wagner mercenaries are likely to continue to be in the Russian-occupied territory of Ukraine.
The defenders of Ukraine in the war with Russia eliminated 21,000 Wagner mercenaries and wounded 80,000 more. This was announced on Friday, June 30, by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in an interview with El Mundo.
“The Wagnerians were of two categories: professional mercenaries and mobilized from prisons, their cannon fodder. Our troops killed 21,000 of them and wounded 80,000.”
The Ukrainian leader stressed that these are huge losses for the Russian Federation, which, moreover, gives an idea of the number of Russian mercenaries fighting on the territory of Ukraine.
“The good news is that we destroyed the most motivated part of the Russian forces,” the president insisted.
Recall that on June 24, Yevgeny Prigozhin staged a riot in Russia. Columns of “Wagnerites” moved to Moscow and shot down planes and helicopters of the Russian army. But after negotiations with the formal leader of Belarus, Prigozhin returned the units to the field camps.
Later, the leader of the “Wagnerites” said that his mercenaries came to Moscow not to overthrow the authorities of the Russian Federation, but to show their protest.
In turn, the President of Russia Vladimir Putin made a statement on television in which he said that most of the militants of PMC Wagner were “patriots of the motherland”, they were used “in the dark.” He also admitted that Russia financed the activities of the “Wagnerites”.
Also in Russia, the criminal investigation into the fact of Prigozhin’s armed rebellion was terminated.
