In cases of monkeypox in Nigeria, there is no evidence of any new or unusual transmission of the virus.
Nigeria recorded the first human death from monkeypox this year. This was announced yesterday by the local Center for Disease Control.
Nigeria has recorded six cases and one death since the beginning of the year. A 40-year-old patient died. He had a co-morbid condition. The man also takes immunosuppressants.
“Of the 21 cases reported in 2022, there was no evidence of any new or unusual transmission of the virus, or documented changes in its clinical manifestations (including symptoms, profile and virulence),” the statement said.
It will be recalled that to date, 171 confirmed cases of monkeypox and 87 suspicious cases have been recorded in the world. A total of 258 cases were observed in 23 countries.
Meanwhile, the WHO does not see the need for mass vaccination of the population against monkeypox. The organization believes that hygiene and safe sexual behavior will help control the spread of the disease.
The first symptoms of monkeypox are fever, headache, muscle aches, and back pain. Inflamed lymph nodes. A rash and sore appear on the skin. Depending on the stage of the disease, the skin rash is similar to what happens with chickenpox or syphilis.
Nodules, blisters, and purulent formations may occur. First they appear on the face, and then on other parts of the body – on the arms and legs, for example. In some cases, which became known in May, such rashes in infected individuals appeared in the genital area. Monkeypox is rarely severe.
