The issue of transferring these high-precision weapons to Kyiv is under consideration at the highest level. But US and European top officials saw signs that the White House had come to the conclusion that it was necessary to support Ukraine’s struggle in the coming weeks. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal, citing these officials.
It is noted that in Washington and Brussels they decided that “the time has come to step on the gas” against the background of the armed rebellion of the Wagner PPK in Russia.
And an unnamed top Ukrainian Defense Ministry official told the WSJ that Kyiv has received positive signals in recent weeks that the United States is moving closer to handing over ATACMS.
Ukrainian officials say these long-range missiles are needed by the Armed Forces of Ukraine to strike at the occupied Crimea, which the enemy army uses as a base for launching attack drones.
Recall, on June 21 it became known that the Foreign Affairs Committee of the US House of Representatives supported the bipartisan resolution H.Res. 488 urging the administration of President Joe Biden to provide Ukraine with ATACMS short-range surface-to-surface ballistic missiles as soon as possible.
